What cookies are
Cookies are small files that websites save in your browser. They can remember settings or help a website recognise you on your next visit. Some are used to measure visits or track people across websites.
What this website uses
You can browse our menu, read about the pub and plan your visit with cookies blocked.
- Our own site code does not set cookies.
- Once you choose whether to allow optional content, we save that choice in your browser’s storage (an item called
lapen-privacy) for 180 days, so we don’t ask again on every page. Nothing is saved until you press a button. - If you close a pub notice with its close button, we save
1in your browser’s session storage (an item calledthe-barley-mow:site-banner:tihar-closure-2026:closed-this-sessionfor the current notice), so it stays closed for the rest of your visit. This is strictly necessary to do what you asked. Your browser deletes it when you close the tab, and nothing is saved unless you close a notice. - We do not use analytics to measure your visit.
- We do not use advertising trackers.
- Directions, social updates and table bookings open on separate websites when you follow a link.
- Our photographs and fonts load from this website.
Our hosting provider may keep technical records of visits, as explained in our privacy notice.
Google Maps
The map on our Find us page is optional content from Google Maps. It loads only if you allow optional content (or switch on Google Maps under Privacy choices). When it loads, Google may receive your IP address and browser information, and Google’s own cookies and privacy policy apply inside the map. Our directions link works whatever you choose.
Food Standards Agency rating
The live food hygiene rating badge from the Food Standards Agency (FSA) is optional content. It loads from the FSA website only if you allow optional content, and the FSA may then receive your IP address and browser information. It runs in an isolated frame that cannot set cookies or use browser storage. The link to our official rating record on food.gov.uk works whatever you choose; the FSA’s cookie policy applies when you follow it.
When you visit other websites
The websites below have their own cookie and privacy policies. These apply when you follow a link from here:
- Nabatable, for table bookings on Nabatable’s website (opens in a new tab). Nabatable may use cookies while you book.
- Google Maps, for directions to the pub. Google applies its own cookies and settings once you are on its site or in its app.
- Instagram, where the pub posts updates. Instagram sets its own cookies, and may ask you to sign in.
These services only open when you choose to follow their links.

You can change your optional content choice here or from Privacy choices at the bottom of every page. Booking, phone, menus, directions and our official FSA record link work whatever you choose. Turning optional content off removes it from the page and stops it loading again. It doesn’t delete information Google or the FSA has already received.
